Dear Arts Patrons,

Welcome to the Viterbo University 2022–23 performing arts season. Whether it be for a Bright Star, Conservatory for the Performing Arts, or Weber Center series event, we are very pleased to have you join us for what surely will be an outstanding production.

The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration have always cherished the arts, and we are proud to continue the legacy of our founders. Viterbo is truly blessed to have incredibly talented Conservatory students, faculty, and Fine Arts Center staff. Every show is painstakingly crafted and selected to offer the highest quality and culturally enriching entertainment possible to our community.

To all Viterbo arts patrons, benefactors, sponsors, volunteers, and artists, allow me to express my sincere gratitude for your support. Enjoy the show!

Director's Note

To our audience:

The world needs togetherness and unity as much now as ever before, and what better way to honor our coming together as a community than through choral singing. As we rehearsed the music for this year’s A Viterbo Christmas, we pondered the meaning of these words and explored the mystery, peace, and joy that is so beautifully embedded in the music we present today. We hope these efforts are made evident through our expressive and heartfelt singing.

It is my distinct pleasure to introduce Viterbo University’s newest choral ensemble, Choral Arts! Consisting of members of our student body, staff, and the greater community, Choral Arts embodies the essence of our mission in choral singing, that of coming together in one voice through song.

On behalf of all of us on the faculty of the Conservatory for the Performing Arts, we wish you all the goodness, peace, and hope that may ring in the new year. May it Ring throughout the Earth!

Sincerely,
James Wilson, DMA
Director of Choral Studies

Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Arr. Sir David Willcocks (1919—2015)

Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King:
peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
with th'angelic hosts proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"

Refrain
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King"

Christ, by highest heaven adored,
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
late in time behold him come,
offspring of the Virgin's womb:
veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
hail th'incarnate Deity,
pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus, our Immanuel.

Refrain

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
risen with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by,
born that we no more may die,
born to raise us from the earth,
born to give us second birth.
