Courage and Vision
With hard work and a little bit of luck, Jamie Schloegel ’06 finds herself executive director of the La Crosse Community Foundation, one of the oldest philanthropic community foundations in the country. As Schloegel sees it, it's important for successful leaders have to have at least two key traits: courage and vision. |

A Balancing Act
For Frank Perez-Guerra ’84, ’10, administrator/chief executive officer at Gundersen Moundview Hospital and Clinics in Friendship for three years, the best approach to leadership is one that keeps focus on knowing and meeting the needs of his people. “My job is to take care of people who take care of people,” he said. |

Working for the Common Good
If not for earning her servant leadership master's degree at Viterbo University, Onalaska Mayor Kim Smith '14 might not have even thought about taking on the mayoral duties and becoming the city's first female mayor. “I really do credit Viterbo with giving me the confidence to raise my hand and say, ‘I’ll do it.’”

Lessons in Leadership
Growing up in Nigeria and Togo, Wale Elegbede ’19 learned a lot from his father about leadership and being a good person. His MBA studies at Viterbo strengthened and added to those early lessons. “Viterbo has been really instrumental for me. Ethical leadership isn’t just something that’s nice to have. It’s a must have.” |

For Students, the Show Goes On The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, on In Limbo, an original two-act play by Viterbo student Phoebe Rodriquez. Viterbo’s Student Theatre Initiative produced and filmed the play during fall semester, and the video will be available for viewing on YouTube Feb. 19–26.
In Limbo explores the changing relationships of six young people in the wake of a tragic death, the multiplicity of grief, and the bonds that hold us together through tough times.
Harness the Power of Stories In a career that took her from groundbreaking nutritionist to food industry change agent, Jean Storlie ’80 used the power of stories for creative problem-solving. In 2020, she shared her insights on story telling in a book, "Once Upon an Innovation," chosen for the Feb. 25 Alumni Virtual Book Club session, which Storlie will host.
This year's Workforce Fair on March 4 will be a virtual event, and Viterbo University alumni are welcome to join as employers looking to hire from private and public college students and graduates, as job seekers looking for a great opportunity, or as scholars trying to find the perfect graduate school.
Viterbo's Career Services page offers more information, registration links, and opportunities for job seekers to prepare in advance for the fair.
Will You Answer the Call? Starting Feb. 17, a small but intrepid band of Viterbo students will take a break from their studies to take part in our phonathon tradition.
The primary purpose of the phonathon is to generate financial support for Viterbo to achieve its mission. But there's a lot more to the effort than just fundraising. It’s an opportunity to communicate with our students to learn how their studies are going, what’s new at Viterbo and for you to share a story about your days on campus. A personal conversation in these difficult times would do wonders, whether you are able to offer financial support or not.
If you would prefer to participate as soon as possible, you can give online, call 608-796-3070, or mail a gift to 900 Viterbo Drive, La Crosse, WI 54601.
Award Nominations Due March 1 Distinguished Alumni Award nominations are sought for Rising Professional, Professional Achievement, Spirit of Francis, and Service to the University awards.
• Anyone may submit nominations.
• Nomination and criteria information and a submission form are on the alumni website.
• Nominations will be considered for up to three years.
