Greetings from the Viterbo campus, quiet for the time being as we prepare to welcome back students and faculty. By the time classes start, the Murphy Center window replacement project will be complete, and the Alumni Plaza and History Walk project on the east side of Murphy will be nearing completion.

BUILDING THE COMMUNITY: As chief executive officer of the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce, Neal Zygarlicke ’11, ’12 has launched a campaign to attract young professionals to the La Crosse community and keep new graduating college students from moving away. READ MORE

Servant Leadership Conference a Hit
Almost 400 people took part in Viterbo University's 2022 Servant Leadership Conference, which featured keynote speaker Michael C. Bush, James A. Bowey, and many other presenters, including the alumni authors pictured above Caitlin Wilson '21, Carolyn Colleen (Bostrack) '07, '10, and Bernard Osborne '21.
The two-day event took place at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts' Lyche Theatre, overlooking the Mississippi River. Organizing the conference was spearheaded by Nicole Van Ert '10, who was recently spotlighted in a story in the monthly Viterbo President's Society newsletter.

CAMPUS REPORTS
Gabriel Named Student Life VP
Kirsten Gabriel was named Viterbo’s vice president for student life and dean of students at Viterbo University in May. She held the interim post since July 2021. Since 2010, Gabriel has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at the university, playing a key role in the creation of the Summer Research Fellowship Program, the Service Saturdays program, and the award-winning Identities Project initiative. Barry Fried Honored by NSAA Conference
The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has named Viterbo University’s Barry Fried its 2021–22 Athletic Director of the Year. Fried has held the position since 1999 and was twice honored as Athletic Director of the Year by Viterbo’s former conference, the Midwest Collegiate Conference. During his tenure, Viterbo has gone from seven athletics programs to 20, and increased the number of student-athletes from 125 to 400. READ MORE
Photos Needed for Sr. Thea Documentary
Work on a documentary about Thea Bowman, FSPA ’65, which will be broadcast on the ABC network, is nearing completion. The producer of Going Home Like a Shooting Star: Thea Bowman’s Journey to Sainthood is seeking more photos of Sr. Thea while she was teaching at Viterbo. If you can help, please scan your photos and email high-resolution JPG files to Randy Erickson. Check out the movie’s trailer for a taste of the documentary.
Five Picked for Wall of Fame
Three alumni and two strong supporters of the Viterbo athletics program will be inducted to the Wall of Fame in a Sept. 24 ceremony.
Breanne Burry '15 and Molly Machometa '16, women’s soccer, and Evan Taylor '15, baseball, are being inducted for their outstanding achievements as student-athletes.
Jean Moore, FSPA, and the Rev. Tom O’Neill are being inducted posthumously for their outstanding meritorious support.
The Wall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Fine Arts Center FSPA Lobby. A social hour will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Cabaret and Cocktails Returns
Longtime music faculty member (and Viterbo alum) Nancy Allen ’84 directs an outstanding cast of local singers and dancers in the seventh annual Cabaret and Cocktails, a medley of more than 80 songs from the 1950s and the ’80s. The cast includes Victoria Pardon, a junior music theatre major, and alumni Anna (Hogan) Benthin ’16, Skyler Erickson ’13, Carter Semb ’18, ’20, and Kayla Shue ’15. A fundraiser for the Platinum Edition and Diamond Edition show choirs, performances are planned for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday–Friday, July 20–22 and 27–29, in the Viterbo Fine Arts Center FSPA Lobby.
