In this month’s Viterbo University alumni newsletter, we have stories that spotlight a few of the areas in which Viterbo has gained a reputation for excellence: servant leadership, serving nontraditional students, and preparing performers for professional careers.
►JULIE BENNETT '12: Since earning her Master of Arts in Servant Leadership Degree, Julie Bennett is leading and living her faith as CEO and executive director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Madison operation, overseeing a $16 million budget and 280 employees.
►GORDON MURPHY: A chance encounter brought Gordon Murphy into Viterbo's engineering program after two decades working in manufacturing. When he pays his tuition, he goes down the second-floor hallway of the building named for his grandfather, W. Leo Murphy.
►LAUREN JOHNSON '21: Music theatre graduate Lauren Johnson made a leap last summer, moving to New York City just in time to land a part in a national tour of Hairspray. She'll feel right at home when the tour comes to the Viterbo Fine Arts Center Feb. 4–5. |

What a Day it Was
Viterbo's alumni, employees, and friends put on an inspiring display of generosity for this year's Day of Giving on Oct. 6. The $312,656 raised was more than double the previous year, while the total number of donors topped 700, a 21% increase over 2021. We are grateful beyond words. |

Alumni Children's Scholarship
Each year, in the name of Celestine Cepress, FSPA, the Viterbo Alumni Association Board awards one or more one-time scholarships of at least $1,000 to first-year or transfer students whose parents or legal guardians are Viterbo University graduates.
In addition, children of alumni who are incoming first-year students admitted prior to Jan. 15 may be eligible for a renewable $1,000 annual alumni scholarship.
Visit the scholarship page for more details.
Documenting Our Legacy
There’s still time for alumni to be included in the Viterbo University Oral History Project.
Stories and memories shared by alumni as part of this project are recorded and will forever be a part of our university’s history and legacy, with many of the stories included in a hard cover pictorial book available for purchase. A copy will be enshrined in the Library of Congress.
As of Nov. 1, 3,360 alumni updated their information, and 2,499 stories were collected. If your story has not been documented yet, call 1-877-603-4366 by Dec. 2. |

Join the WAICU Advocate Network
Viterbo President Rick Trietley and the other members of the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) Board of Directors are seeking to strengthen the advocacy network that works for students at private, nonprofit higher education institutions in Wisconsin.
WAICU has set a goal of having 2,022 advocates by the end of the year, people who will step up to send messages to their elected representatives supporting the interests of students at Viterbo and other private colleges.
Check out details on the WAICU campaign and become a network member by registering online.
