A Message from Tina Johns |

Greetings V-Hawk parents and families,
As I write this message, I have just completed the first day of STAR (Student Transition and Registration) and I’m feeling so energized by the excitement of our incoming V-Hawk families and students. Such an exciting time as we are able to have families and students back on campus!
The new academic year brings to us a change in our leadership team. Our university president, Glena Temple, has accepted a new position at Dominican University in Illinois.
I am so grateful to have worked under her and appreciate the value she placed in partnering with you, our V-Hawk family members. I look forward to our continued partnership under the leadership of our interim president, Rick Trietley.
Please mark Aug. 17 on your calendars for our first virtual parent and family town hall of the 2021–22 academic year. Viterbo team members will provide updates on their respective departments as we look forward to a more open campus this year.
The event also will provide you an opportunity to ask questions you might have about your students returning to campus.
As always, thank you for sharing your student with us. We appreciate and value the trust you place in us to help support your student’s career and life goals.
Tina Johns
Executive Director, Student Success and Retention
SAVE THE DATE: We are excited about having YOU, our V-Hawk families, back on campus on Sept. 25 to celebrate Family Day 2021. Watch your email for more details coming soon. |

Moving Forward
By the end of spring semester, the Viterbo campus had begun a transition to pre-pandemic "normal." For example, the end-of-year Courtyard Carnie returned and graduates were celebrated with outdoor commencement ceremonies. (Check out the photo galleries from those events and more).
The Viterbo testing and mitigation initiatives that enabled the return of year-end campus traditions will continue as needed to ensure the health and safety of the campus community when school starts in fall. On a positive note, by June more than 81% of employees and 58% of students registered for fall semester 2021 reported receiving at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. |

Constructive Summer
When students return for fall semester, they will notice some significant improvements on campus. The Academic Resource Center in the Hub for Student Success will get four glass-walled rooms for tutoring and studying, two hard-walled offices for ARC staff, new furniture, and a welcome desk for student-facing services.
Other improvements for Murphy Center this summer include the second phase of window replacement, remodeling of the lobby and second-floor corridor, and replacement of the HVAC system's main chiller.
The Varsity Athletic Center gym (above) and lobby also have gotten a facelift. |

Food service director Ron McGinley, right, and chef Havin Rehwinkel
|
Meet the Viterbo Food Service Team Hello. I’m Ron McGinley, food service director, and I lead the dining management team here at Viterbo, along with chef Havin Rehwinkel and catering manager Kayla Sojka.
We strive everyday to provide fresh, varied, nutritious, and exciting menu options for the Viterbo community. We continually evaluate our offerings to better serve our ever-changing student needs.
We are always open to ideas and discussion, and my hope is that you and/or your student will reach out to us if there are things that might be needed. It is especially important to have discussions for any special dietary needs so we know what that need is and so that your student learns about all that is available to them.
We are very creative in meeting communicated needs. Feel free to reach out to us via email or call me at 608-796-3837. |
Even though it is summer break and most students are home, counseling services is still here to support students for whatever it is they are dealing with. We are providing in-person and telehealth sessions every weekday from 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. for Viterbo students in the state of Wisconsin. If your student is struggling please encourage them to schedule an appointment online or if after hours use My SSP.
Did you know?
During the 2020–21 school year, counseling services met with 296 students for a total of 1677 sessions.
One out of four students in the 2020–21 graduating class utilized counseling services at some point during their college career.
All of Viterbo counseling services staff are fully licensed mental health professionals in the state of Wisconsin and can provide clinical treatment for anxiety, depression, bipolar, and other mental health disorders, along with help coping with basic life crises. |

It Pays to Be Aware of Billing Deadlines
The Viterbo business office looks forward to welcoming your student to our university. A few friendly reminders: the 2021 fall semester billing will be generated on Monday, Aug. 2. The deadline to confirm enrollment is Friday, Aug. 27. All registered students are required to confirm enrollment and can do so in one of two ways:
-
Make a minimum down payment of $500 toward the semester’s charges (it is not necessary to call if the payment is made online or mailed). Checks mailed to the Business Office must be received no later than Aug. 27.
-
Verify with the Business Office via phone call that the student’s financial aid award, private loan, or third-party funding is finalized and will disburse and pay for all charges billed to the account.
The deadline to pay accounts in full to avoid interest for fall 2021 is Sunday, Oct. 31, and the final day to have accounts paid in full, including interest, is Friday, Dec. 17. An email notice will be sent to students and approved parent proxies with reminders about these dates.
For all other important dates, please visit the Student Information page. Students can add parents and family members as a proxy if they want them to have direct access to their account and academic information. If you have any questions, please contact the Business Office at 608-796-3850.

For three weeks in August 1974, Viterbo’s Fine Arts Center played host to the International Mime Institute and Festival, said to be the first of its kind in the country. About 30 masters of mime from Japan, Czechoslovakia, Britain, Switzerland, Israel, France, and the U.S. conducted classes in commedia dell'arte, English pantomime, harlequin dance, kabuki, clown and circus techniques, and beginning mime.
